Hello everyone - I'm a new member & would welcome some advice. Last year I bought a year old C220 cdi & and after an initial bout of nonsense with the engine management warning light coming on every couple of weeks, prompting at least 6 or 7 days at the dealers (now resolved - touch wood), the car is pretty much everything I expected.
I average over 40mpg in just about all circumstances, with enough power for me now that I'm past my boy racer days.
Howeverone thing that I still struggle with 12 months on is judging distances behind the car when parking - normally I end up leaving enough space to park a mini behind me & my garage door still bears the scars from the only time I didn't!
On one occasion when the car was in the garage they leant me a model with Parktronic - what a difference
Does anyone know if it is possible to have this retrofitted & if so does it cost an arm & a leg?
cheers
Phil

Retrofitting is an arm and a leg.

There are aftermarket kits - sold through stealership and fairly sure there are some franchised set-ups that will come and fit - I have no idea how much these lads charge.

As Malden say's with MB too expensive, some after market kits do work, but its very hard work running the cables through the car. there are always plenty of kits on Ebay.

I bought an used E class estate siz weeks ago and had the garage fit rear sensors

They are colour coded and work well - if a little quiet

I'm not sure who fitted them for hte garage possibly Autolec ? The installed coat was around £350 higher than some retrofit websites but easier to get the dealer to fit before delivery. Colour match was an additional cost but included inhte total shown above

I was disappointed not to have these on my car (a 5 mth old very loaded ex-MB Management car), especially after the demonstrator I'd had for a few days had them.
However, I've since learned that they tend to go wrong a lot as they get older, and they're expensive (especially with the painting) to replace.

My son just bought a SEAT Leon and the rear view is so restricted that he is having parking sensors fitted. We were recommended this place

http://www.carmagicuk.com

I think they charge about £150 for 2 sensors and £200 for 4 sensors. They also come and pick your car up and bring it back too :)

Hey young lady, you commented about the odd exhaust firm in Tolpits lane who wisk your car away to heaven knows where, and here you are doing it yourself.

Ah well I know they are a good outfit as an ex policeman that now works with my partner worked for them for many years and knows them well. They don't mind if you drive your car to them, there is nothing 'hidden' about their whereabouts, it's just a pain getting to North Harrow to have it done :p

Well we pass the MB showroom quite a lot and always glance towards it :)

However I don't think either of us dare to go inside again or we might be tempted to get another one

I hope phase 2 goes okay ;)

Thanks everyone - as I suspected the dealer retrofit option is out of the question - but there does appear to be quite a choice of aftermarket options which I will check out. There's an independent specialist quite near to wher I live (Ilkley) & I'll ask them too - I'll let you know the outrcome

don't forget to use your eyes too!!!

On the subject of parking sensors/parktronic just thought i'd share this, made me chuckle...

My father in-law runs his own caochbuilding, restoration and accident repair centre, last month he had 3 Mercs in with major scrapes on the bumpers from owners own accidents hitting posts etc, and guess what all 3 were fitted with Parktronic! One of them was so badly scraped that they had actually sliced through the sensor!! It's not just the Merc drivers tho, he gets plenty of business from cars with parking sensors in for damage repair.

What is it with drivers with Parking sensors, do they think if they have it they no longer need to use their eyes when driving and parking?? he he
