I want to fit a Parrot 3100 unit and need to remove the Audio20 Unit to connect it to the back. I have a 2003/2003 W211.
Can anyone tell me how to get the Radio Unit out or has anyone else done this install and got any tips or instructions.

If it's a cassette unit, it may not be possible. The Cassette Audio20 has the audio gateway, meaning that there is no direct connection to the speakers.
We had a Nokia kit professionally installed in our 2002 211 and there was no way to integrate.
On the upside, its easy to fit a command unit, on the downside you can't attach anything. The CD units have integral amps so can be attached as I understand it.

It does indeed have a cassette unit so it may not be feesable I take it.

I do have the Nokia Bluetooth thingy fitted which seems to work OK (well it does now I have bought a new phone) but there is no facility to download my contacts so I will have to use the voice tag to make it work.

You mention the comand - what does this do and can it be added to the current equipment. I do have steering wheel controls and a TEL button on the radio but I don't have the MB phone kit installed, nor do I want to pay silly money for that option.

I do wish all the manufacturers would get togeter and sort this lot out. I don't know why it needs to be a minefield of compatibilty issues and uneccessary complications.

Thanks for your reply BTW

command is the tv/sat nav gizmo and quite expensive.

The parrot kit should work as well as your nokia kit as basically it's the same thing to the car, but as well as having a display, you can integrate with the wheel controls too.
Does your nokia use the car's speakers and mute the radio?

You could easily add comand as you already have the audio gateway in the boot. Its pretty much plug and play for your particular car. Can be done very cheaply.

Yes it uses the speakers and mutes the radio.

I don't think the comand unit is a viable option as it's too expensive. Iv'e just looked on ebay and they are anything from £300 upwards. I don't really need SAT NAv as I have a TomTom, which I like, and I don't want to watch TV/DVD's really so it seems a waste of money. Looking at a comand unit on ebay it looks like the interface is not going to work with the parrot anyway.

I'd still like to know how to get it out from the console though if anyone knows this.

I'm curious about how yours interfaces with the audio20!
Our installation "specialists" couldn't do it.
In any case, if your nokia is already interfaced, I'd have thought you could simply swap the wires and use the existing connections.
to actually get the stereo out, you have to strip the centre console. Not a big job mind.

I dont know how the Nokia is connected - I have only had the car a week and it was fitted by the previous owner. Where do I start to strip out the centre console? I'll take pictures if I can get to see it if it any use to you.
