Parrot 3200 Hands-free install

Halfords have an offer £149 with free fitting & provisionally booked to fit unit to my 2001 S320 on Friday 13th, meanwhile the local Halfords guy says I need to research who manufactured the Comand unit as they might need to order an extra "patch cable" for £89 if it happens to be Gateway.

Phoned my local Mercedes dealer & the service guy says it needs to be hooked up to the diagnostics machine to tell, cost 49 plus vat.

Does any of the above sound correct? I'd have thought that surely Halfords would have experienced this before & the Mercedes dealer could have found the info from my VIN

I'd appreciate any thoughts, many thanks

They say that I wont need the lead for my year & if I did they have one for a tenner

I suspect the 'make' is a red herring by a 'Halfords' person as the important bit shouild be the merc interface. (These are the same engineers that insisted that the cheap single rod plastic ariel in my friends car was electrically operated).

It should give a fair idea. As for whether I'd trust Halfrauds with the complex wiring and dash construction of any merc, let alone an S is another matter.

Just spoke to Halfrauds (lol I like that one) now they're gonna have a company called HydePark fit the Parrot unit at my home (apparently they fit all parking sensors for Halfords), spoke to them & they don't know what all the fuss has been about about!!
