OK, I posted a while ago about my dealer not wanting to let me have the part numbers I requested?

Well, that is company policy believe it or not. The reason being that MB want you to sign up to the web gizmo, which costs, so you can get part information.

Below is a reply to my query on this policy of secrecy, and the way it made the owner of an older MB I am keen to keep pure MB, feel unwanted.

"Thank you for your email of 30th July 2007, whereby you contacted your local Mercedes-Benz dealership, and they advised that no discount is offered on parts , and that the relevant part numbers would not be made available to you.

In light of your concerns, we regret to inform you that your dealership acted in accordance, as are not obliged to give a discount or supply the part numbers.

Regrettably, we are unable to supply any part numbers from this office, as we do not deal with part(s) enquiries as these are dealt with via our dealerships directly. However, you can obtain part(s) numbers via the website below. Please be advised that you will need to register and that there is also a charge to use this website.

Yours sincerely

Not much else I can do but sign up. The trouble is, I cannot sign up if I am NOT VAT REGISTERED!

Hello

I'm probably missing something, but doesn't this site have most of the information?

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb0.asp?TP=1

The other tack might be to ask your dealer for a written quote having described the part you want. My dealer's system does this and the print out they give me has the part number.

Do let me know if I'm wrong because it would be helpful to know the pitfalls of relying on this type of info.

Best wishes

David

AARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

I have noticed this too, poor customer service as far as I'm concerned, why the secrecey, what's their problem, I thought it was all about selling cars, supporting aftersales operations and LOOKING AFTER the customers. :(

I have worked for Ferrari for over 35 years in all aspects of the aftersales side of the bussiness and have no problem helping customers in any way I can including supplying part numbers to owners and if necessary sourcing the part too - new and classic:D
