Hi folks, Having to do a lot of short trips in my SLK 250 CDI 172 first registered 14/04/2014 and am becoming concerned about possible problems with the particulate filter. BUT the first problem I have is confirming that my car has one. How can I tell? I have the EG-Ubereinstimmungsbescheinigung document, is there a code that I should be looking for? Failing that I guess that an inspection of the exhaust system might reveal all, if I knew what to look for. Hope you can help.

On a 2014 diesel vehicle there will be a DPF , i believe they were compulsory from 2010/11.

What problems are you concerned about as if there is an issue with the DPF system the car will soon let you know as a big £ will light up on the dash ;)

Without seeing the build sheet, which if you place your VINon this thread someone will do a search for you, It most certainly should have a DPF :)

Yep 474... mine was throwing EMLs and turns out a bad exhaust gas sensor at 108,000 klms now allowing the DPF to regen. Along with some other work back to full strength again.

Many thanks, spec sheet from VIN No has confirmed that DPF present. Now I have to work out what to do to keep it clean.

Engine seems to run pretty cool even on a long run, 100 miles on M5, now in town, on short runs, I need to resort to the heated seats.

MOT a month away, so time available to take action to avoid any problems with emissions. ? Add fuel additive? and drive hard, keep revs high, get engine hot?

Your experiences and advice welcomed.

Italian Tune Up is the best way (drive hard, keep revs high, get engine hot) take it on the motorway 70mph in 4th gear for 40 miles each way should do it OR a nice long B Road blast

You will know when it is Re-generating as the engine note will change and the revs will drop

I have ran two DPF equipped cars over the last seven years , with a daily round trip mileage of six miles. Never had any issues with the DPF on either of these cars but have always used premium diesel (V Pwr / Momentum).

A couple of slugs of Dipetane is widely regarded as a great way to clean the system and reduce soot formation.
