Hi there

I am based in Ireland and need quite a number of parts for my '84 280SL 107 as I am about to get it re painted and I want to upgrade it as much as possible at the same time. I have mentioned before that dealers in Ireland are a total rip off on parts and slow to get stuff in so I compiled a list of about 13 parts, mainly body parts, rubber seals, sopt lamps etc and e mailed it to 2 of the parts specialists listed / advertised in the MBOA Mag only to find 2 replies in my mailbox this AM, both telling me that they could not help me with the parts I am looking for. Q1. What kind of MB specialists are they? This is a 107, not a gullwing. Q2. Where should I go for parts.

Please help

Hi Dave,
I recently bought a 1983 500sl 107. I have also being trying to source parts, I found "thebenzbin.com" on the net however, it's a US site. The prices look very attractive but I am not sure are they genuine parts or will they ship to Ireland. You could try and talk to Terry Jackson in Shankill, Dublin at 2826965. He specilaises in Classic mercs and is very helpful.

regards

Hi

You will find with most of the parts specialists. Is that they will only cater for the vast majority of stuff for the run of the mill stuff. And then service related items. The SL you will find problems as if its not service items then it only specific for the SL. There is not enough call for it. If it is for the SL. Its available from MB usually next day. If your local stealership is no good. Then get the part numbers of them. And ring one of the dealers of the main land to help. Or go directly to European dealer. Part numbers are global. You may gain on the exchange rate. Get them to send them.

Hope this helps?

Thanks for the reply. I am surprised that there is not a call for 107 parts. I was recently driving on the A3 from Wimbledon to Portsmouth and saw several '80s and 70's 107's. There are always a lot of them for sale on the MBOA mag and other mags.

Is it true to say, then that Soecific non regular service parts are not available generally outside of the dealer network?

I have bought stuff at a substantial saving on UK prices from Andreas Reinacher of DB Depot in Germany. Takes about a week to arrive (not sure if back-ordering was involved). You can get the phone number and e-mail address at http://www.dbdepot.de. He speaks good English.

I have also seen Julian Larkin highly recommended, but not used him myself. You can get him via http://www.mercedesparts.co.uk. There's something strange going on with the site at this minute, but you should find the contact details and parts request forms OK.

Good luck!
