Parts help please

Hi all,

I am after some advice on where to purchase the following parts for my 1989 500SEL. MOT failure

I need :-

Right hand side front downpipe
Centre exhaust (next piece back from downpipes 2 in, 2 out)
Prop shaft coupling rubbers

These parts are so exspensive, does anyone know a company who sells them cheap ?

I assume you have checked the dealer prices? Have you cvalled Mercedes of GLoucester? They seem competitiver on price a lot of the time. I am located in Stroud if you want to meet up/need a hand?

Thanks for your help mate :lol:, I will get onto Nick today. I only purchased the car for £1K and am trying to do things cheaply !! It was an eBay rescue. I have spent a lot of time cleaning the interior, getting the paint done - new grill etc, it is starting to look really good. It is being lowered on H&R's today and then the wheels go on this evening AMG monoblock split rim replicas 18".

Maybe I purchased the wrong car :wink:

Does anyone know the official Mercedes Part codes for these parts.

I am wondering if the following would fit.

Have you any pics of the car? Ebay rescue eh? You are a brave man.... Sounds like the wheels and tyres are wiorth more than the blimmion motor! You going to pimp with it, or should that be "wid" it? :wink:

Seriously though, call the dealer in GLoucester, they have a very herlpful parts dept and can list and fax all the parts info over to you. You may be surprised at the prices for older MB model spares. I was.

GSF can only do 500SEL bits up to '85 how odd.

Ask for a discount, you never know........ It is nice to think that the MB bits will fit right, first time, and be of the best quality too. Have you tried ECP?

Got prices from ECP, they are slightly cheaper - in fact the same as in your post above....

Have another really bad problem though this morning...

Took car to local garage to have the H&R's fitted and they cannot do them, they even borrowed some heavy duty spring compressors and they were not strong enough..

So heres my problem, I need to get the car lowered this week, as it is my wedding car - I get married next saturday... :?

I could obviously leave it standard, but it is a running joke with all of my friends that I always lower my car and put on some large alloys - so not lowering is not an option... :evil:

Does anyone know a specialist mercedes Garage in Gloucestershire that could do this - Car is a W126 500SEL & do it this week !!!!!!!!

Try this guy mate:

"DC Autocare" who has a workshop in frampton cottrell, and also has a mobile service. He is not a Mercedes specialist, and I am not connected to him but he is an excellent mechanic. One who diagnosed a small problem with my car when so called "specialists" didnt, his name is Dave, he is very reasonable and even more important, honest.
He is in the yellow pages.
Alternatively a colleague recommended a chap called tony cridland who owns a garage called 'the gibb' at castle coombe on 07966 368710. he is a merc specialist who apparently is excellent however, personally I cant vouch for him.
