When I 1st bought this super car a couple month's ago, I noticed an annoying 'tinny' rattle coming from passenger front door, & after many a hairaisng manouvre and nearly kerbing it, found it to be the wood trim in line with inner door handle - seat end, to be the cause.

Have tried to bodge it by sticking a double sided spongy pad behind end trim, but it still rattles at high speeds usually over 60mph.

Can the trim be pulled or slid off to inspect as I would suspect that a fixing anchor has probably been broken off, or will I have to remove whole inner door panel to fix the problem?

Will the cost of a new trim cost me an 'arm n a leg' at the dealers?

Snap! Had precisely the same light rattle from under my wood trim but on the driver's door. Managed to fix it though for 20 pence! I pushed the coin up under the trim with a lollipop stick and cured it. Occurred to me immediately afterwards what an idiot I'd been - should've used the lollipop stick to cure the rattle and kept the ****** 20p!!

Thanks Tom - very comical

Mines Almandine red too.

Have got white spots on front of bonnet.

Are these due to someone being careless with a paint roller in the garage,
or the undercoat showing thru after stone chippping?

Am off in supercar to Petersfield.

Back online tomorrow.

Thanks again, Keith.

Keith,

Have you been pulling the wood bit away from the door with some sort of tool? I'm afraid of breaking it if I pull to much and it doesn't seem to have much play in there...

Thanks again!

Thanks Tom, BTW Do you know ...

Where I can get a paint brush touch up for alamandine red?

How have you touched up your cars bumper scratches etc?

Have got spray n laquer from dealer.

Halfords no longer list it.

I know I can spray into can lid & brush from there, but its a bit watery to use like that.

Thanks,
Keith.

'Fraid not Keith. I had the same problem looking for a touch-up kit. Halfords did make me up a spray can to the recipe intending to do exactly what you are considering but it was not a success, difference like night & day! Ended up having wheel arches (all four quarter panels in fact which included one new front wing) and a couple of door panels done professionally. Great match, but that paint mix also hopeless for touching-in with a brush - as you say, far too thin.
If it is scratches you need to touch-in and not rust blisters, I found the wax lipstick-like thing you get with Turtle Wax's 'Colour Magic' polish (dark maroon colour in our case) ideal for filling them in and polishing up after allowing to harden off for a few days.

wierd thing is that i had quite a few small white spots where i would not normally expect to find stone chips - like the offside rear wing. i could feel the surface wasnt smooth but it didnt seem to be an indent type feel. a quick scratch with a finger nail at various angles - and the white "chip" came off !! very weird.....

on the subject of touching in, i got my touch up kit from 114 (mark) at Truro MB and the colour match is spot on. Dont use the brush supplied as it is too big - as they all are, instead use a matchstick that you have sharpened the end of or a piece of thin card cut to a point. Touch in lightly and leave to dry 20 mins then repeat - even a small stone chip may take 3 or 4 goes but be patient and the result will be much better than just dabbing some paint on with the touch up brush. Spray paint should work just as well once some of the solvent has evapourated off and dont be tempted to use it when the paint is "going off" !

Some great advice there David,

Very odd - those white spots, I've only got mine around grill & leading edge of bonnet, as though they were caused by stonechips, will try to scrape them off like you did.

Many thanks
Keith

So Keith, were they stonechips or something else?

Thanks, David

A few seem to come off with a thumbnail scrape, but most are seemingly permanent.
Need to get a magnifyer on them to see if theres a crater formed, which will tell me its the undercoat perhaps.

Do you know if they used white as the undercoat, on almandine mettallic?
Keith.

Take the door card off an you'll see that the wood trim is held on by 6mm bolts.

Just tighten it up - a 15 minute job is all. :D
