I cant seem to find many threads on mapping or chipping of the clk.
where can i find a mercedes performance specialist (trusted one ).Ive just read the cks thread ;) .

e.g i drive a clk 430 .i was told they have 4 catalytic converters and that i only need 2 for the emissions for the UK.if so i want to get rid of them.Theres nothing better than the sound of a V8 on a cold Derbyshire morning :D .

I've heard reports of reasonable gains (c. 8%) for the W209 CLK55 by DMS but the cost quoted was £1,000! They will come to you to do it though :???:

I don't think that many on the forum have done it to a CLK. One reason it may not have been discussed is that mod chips fall foul of the forum rules.

There was a discussion on remapping here; http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=20414

Which rule does a mod chip fall foul of, please?
Has anyone ever checked with Mercedes whether the guarantee is infringed? I notice on the websites of some tuners they give the careful and unhelpful statement 'it should not infringe the guarantee' Yes but does it?

Finally, there is still the issue of whether any insurance is null and void if the insurance company is not notified of 'any modifications to improve performance'.

This is definately the case. if you do not inform your insurance company and they discover the modification you will not get a pay out. I am unsure if you could also then be guilty of not having insurance. It will void any warranty, however, if you dont tell the dealer and they dont look it wont. They will look if the problem maybe related to engine performance issues.

Some insurance companies will take the modification at a higher premium, and some will not accept it at all. The advice here is to contact your insurance company and ask them before going ahead. It could even be worth asking them in writing incase they change there minds.

as far as DMS is concerned, they are expensive but they do have a good understanding of these cars and do offer a full return to standard settings for free. doing a google search will bring up other performance chip companies, but best to avoid superchip dealers who only exchange your chip for another that was altered by some third party and avoid at all costs "Piggy Back" chips. these are extra ECU chips that are added after the ECU and set new parameters. this, in theory, prevents the chip knowing anythin has been added but in practice means that the its just a device that makes changes after the ECU has sent out is instructions. As ECU's do more than just tell the engine parameters, this type of modification is asking for trouble which soon follows!!!

Depending on your cars state of tune, you can expect anywhere between 8 and 12% improvement using ECU Remaps but with some perfromance car models, you can often find that the ECU remap gives no extra performance, altho it can offer a more responsive engine by altering throttle response.

It made a noticable difference to the SLK55.

Hmmm, I think the forum rule that states that "Illegal activities include but are not limited to mod chips," is somewhat overzealous.

I know that some mod chips contain copied copyrighted code, but the there is nothing illegal about modifying your engine's parameters, unless this causes it to fail to meet emissions limits.

I know this has been discussed before, but I do still struggle to see the massive illegality of chipping.

If you ever do it, don't forget to check with your insurance company first.

I have had my E55 AMG (W211) done, I shall be having it remapped back to factory settings, before I kill myself. It all sounds great untill you try it then it's just frightening. I have had a track day with the car it cost a fortune: tyres, insurance, track fees, brake pads and petrol. I took the E55 to 160mph that was enough for me. But I'm reliably informed it would top out around 195mph.

Acceleration 0-60 didn't improve much it was around 4.3 but the increase in that was due to K&N filters fitted rather than the remapping. going upto 120mph was more where the power came in it was doing that from a standing start in about 9 seconds.

How nice to have a sensible answer first hand,OK mine takes 6 sec to 60mph,the new AMG does it in 4.5. Though i only have 300bhp and the V70R just under that, its hard to get traction now in both cars, more power,no thanks.
