Went to change the bulb in my 2009 C220 after dashboard alert, only to find the yellow bulb socket has seemingly burned out at some point and part of the plastic housing, as pictured above, broken loose and just placed back behind the bulb cover.

Double checked the other side and the same thing has happened there!

Has this happened to anyone else here?

Car is under dealer warranty as only just bought last week so will be going to get fixed but wondered if this Is likely to be a full headlight change or if there’s an easy fix

Looks like a new bulb holder required. Can't see any damage to the headlight from that pic.
Simple enough if it is.

Had a similar thing in my year 2000 W210/E320. Fitted with Xenon lamps by MB factory but heat or UV must be so intense that parking bulb holders and general wiring inside the headlight module was badly deteriorated requiring professional repair.

It looks like the bulb holder has got hot and stuck itself to the headlamp and has been snapped off in trying to remove it. Seen it before.

Yes, that’s what the dealer said when they had it checked but won’t fix as the bulbs are working safely and it’s age related wear and tear!!

Plastic and heat don’t go well together.

Indeed, and it certainly seems to get pretty hot in this car’s engine bay

It’s the heat from the bulb that “welds” them together. :(
