Hi Folks,
My local petrol station owner has been told by his supplier to budget his inventory cost to be at £1.50/litre for Diesel by Xmas, £1.35 for unleaded. He's not exactly happy, his margin stays the same but the interest cost on his loan for holding the fuel goes up.

Ouch for us, but he's worried about still having a business by Xmas.

I'll start saving for my own petrol station. There may be some going cheap soon.

Mate of mine is brewing neat Alchohol!!!!!! and his latest update is that it works but he still needs to fine tune the brewing process. Very cheap fuel if it works out.

Yet another middle finger to Gaydon..

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! supose to be a secret!!!!!!

But on another note, its becoming very expensive to live in the uk, Booze, fags (tabac) and fuel, the three things Gaydon can guarantee an income from.
Its time to do it for ourselves, I grow pot the whole house, every room is full of plants and that gives me all I need to 12 months, plus I get an income from it. Booze I brew my own, its not nice but it gets results, finally fuel, veg oil was cheap now its not so Im sorting alternatives via the brew my own route.

So hopefully my 3 main additictions will be covered and be tax free, so middle finger left and right up and down to Gaydon you Tw@t

It may become a part of our culture once again, the grow your own. Not so long ago it was relatively common to grow some of your vegitables in your garden/allotment. Brewing ones fuel is just an extension of that principle. Engines would need some modifications to run on alcohol but there is no reason why not. Why not make your own peanut oil for a diesel engine?

Snag is, any savings he might make will be gone when he starts sipping the stuff.

Where I work a lot of our staff travel approx 30-50 miles a day.

One of our home delivery drivers commented soon he wont be able to afford to work here, and as for public transport, where is a bus at 04:30?

needless to say no workfor him near his home.

the "cost of living going up and wages staying the same" is the problem here as we all know.

A job that would make me a total (before expenses) of £1000 on the south coast in 2003, now makes me a total (before expenses) of £1000 today.
Expenses are typically were typically £100 for fuel and are now closer to £130, staff have to be paid more for their fuel too, then the non fuel related stuff comes into play.

My £400 net has turned into £250 net in 5 years. 4 or 5 of these a week is a more than significant loss in profit. Yet when i get home, i still have to pay the ever increasing bills.

What happens when i try and get another 5p per mile? I lose the client.

It probably means the wages they earn for the mornings work cover the cost of their travel.

Its not far away from people not being able to afford to go to work. There must be people getting near the point where their travel costs are more than their earnings.

I had a look at my fuel leak tonight, I think I may try and fix it soon as it's getting expensive.

I also wouldn't need to worry about all these people that smoke while driving and don't seem to have ashtrays in their cars.

Hi,
I've looked in this fuel stuff a little more. I access industry reports as part of my strategic planning job, and I pulled some data on it. It appears that demand for oil is simply far in excess of supply, and outgrowing supply every year. It's not just greedy folks investing in oil for profit. Oil production is growing slowly and is expected to continue that way as the new finds of oil can't make up for the shutdown of empty fields. Supply is basically peaking, and is unlikely to improve much before the stuff runs out, whether it's in 30 years or 50 years. Not good. There's a small amount of supply flexibility to increase and decrease production in the middle east, but it's pretty small compared to the overall problem.

The only way to fix it for is to reduce demand, alternative fuels for example. It's not clear that using more economical cars with help much.

Hi,

They still use fuel when they are stuck in traffic jams.

When I was working at Grangemouth, BP sold the refinery and it became an independant thing. It was going to make a huge profit because the place had only been running at about 30% capacity. They were going to make a fortune by going to 100% capacity as China would take everything they could produce.

Mrs H drives 70 miles round trip to Glasgow every day. Even with her (moderately economical) C180, that's still the thick end of £400 every month - as she said over the weekend, £400 would be a decent chunk each month towards a bigger mortgage for a house in Glasgow... and it wouldn't be (literally) going up in smoke:)

I'm sure other people will have to at least consider, even if only vaguely, their home/work distance :( Will we all be moving back into the cities over the coming years?
