What's the best fuel additive if any to add to an e320 coupe - m104 engine to clean out the injectors?

Here are a couple of quotes from Wiki...

"Gasoline additives increase gasoline's octane rating or act as corrosion inhibitors or lubricators, thus allowing the use of higher compression ratios for greater efficiency and power, however some carry heavy environmental risks. Types of additives include metal deactivators, corrosion inhibitors, oxygenates and antioxidants."

"Gasoline is produced in oil refineries. Material that is separated from crude oil via distillation, called virgin or straight-run gasoline, does not meet the required specifications for modern engines but will form part of the blend."

Tesco and Asda use little or no additives!

and i get accused of snobbery by isnsiting on shell every time i fill up

i just think supermarket petrol is cheaper for a reson

i was told (along with that the tooth fairy always leaves 10p) that supermarket petrol not only has less addatives but come from further down the refineing (sp) process and as such is not so good quality wise

I find VPower or Ultimate definitely run quieter and I think probably give some extra economy. Equally though I use Tesco locally for the cheap price and just mix and match..

I think Tesco spot buy as I am pretty sure the recent Tesco fill up on diesel I had was Ultimate.. very blue in colour and the same silent running as ultimate.. but no guarantes obviously... previous Tesco fillup it ran like a poorly dog... Generally try to fill up one in three as Ultimate - then cheapest Tesco or Sainsbury on price...

Or, club together for this:

Fuel additives, just like oil additives, are a waste of money.

The oil companies invest millions of £££s each year on experimenting with detergents etc which they add to their product so you do not have to.

So my opinion is don't. Also my SLK's hand book specifically says not to add fuel additives; just use a good quality fuel instead.

Not strictly true, as even Mercedes provides a fuel additive for sale to be used ocassionally, as do Audi etc.

The fuel system can and does get "gummed" up, and an additve cleans it out without damaging the cat.

I would be very careful about using a non Merc approved additive though.

It is listed on EPC with a part number but cannot remember what it is.
