Hi, I am a new Mercedes owner and am delighted to now own an E200 estate car. I know that many of you might snigger but I just cannot get the petrol cap back on. I bought it with a quarter of a tank of fuel and have just filled it up but cannot for the life of me find a way to replace the cap. I have checked the manual but there is no advice there and I have asked everyone I know to try and get it to work. Are we all doing something wrong or is this cap just faulty? I would love to know. Please help. I would also appreciate any other advice that members can give me for my new and already so much loved car.

Could be that it's gone into the closed/locked position whilst you were getting it off. Try 'springing' it open with some pliers or a screwdriver.
Easier to do than to write about it !
Happened to mine not long ago....a 10 second fix if it is this

Cheers
Doug

Thanks again to Dougtsc and Tom7035, perfect advice and the petrol cap is now working as it should. Of course something else had to go wrong and now the actual flap is sometimes staying in a locked position. We have disconnected the locking device for the time being, the car is kept in a garage so it should be safe from anyone who might want to mess around with it. I think I might just leave it as it is and just accept that things are going to go wrong with a used car.
