Hi,

The central locking stopped working a few weeks ago on my beloved 94 w124 e220. I didn't prioritise this as I only do a few miles here and there. So imagine my surprise when coming back from a day out I went to fill it up and obviously the petrol cap wouldn't unlock. I've never driven so carefully as I did for the remained of the journey, running with the needle on E.

All the doors and boot can still be opened individually, but does anyone know how I can get to unlock the cap now? I've got other problems with the car, so I know I'll have to get it seen to, but as I'm just about to move house so there isn't any money to deal with it properly just yet.

Oh and does anyone have a recommendation for an independent MB mechanic/garage in Brighton or Sussex for when I've got some spare cash?:)

Peel back the lining in the boot, on the right hand side

That exposes the filler tubing and locking mechanism. There is a button atop the filler neck structure. Press that and the world should be your lobster.

Had the same on my 94 E280..

As Myros say's, but in my case i pulled the button up!

This is connected to rod that slots thru plate in cap flap.
Tried removing mine altogether to pull apart n lubricate, but alas is a sealed unit & had to re-install it after thowing some WD40 on it.

That reminds me, must do it again before it happens again, or IF it happans again.
