Hi Guys i'm new on here and was after some advice, I have just towed my friend home from the petrol station after he has accidentally put petrol into his 53 reg A class diesel, the car was almost empty of diesel with the light on and he has put £30 worth but realised and hasn't started it. i'm into cars etc and am good mechanically but am not familiar with the A class (I generally run old british leyland stuff yes honestly don't laugh) does it have a drain plug on the tank ?? if not any suggestions as it looks like it's going to be up to me to have a look and hopefully sort it out tomorrow
thanks
stu

Hello and welcome,, the tank must be drained,no other way, the most that is allowed at the worst is 6 liters of petrol in 60 liters of diesel. If you get stuck when helping out do come back and ask

During Tesco petrol contamination, 2 years ago, the local Merc dealer have to siphon it off the filler with a plastic tube.

thanks for all the replies guys I just wonder if I can get a piece of garden hose down the filler and siphon it out that way and maybe use an electric pump of some description

An electric pump isn't too good an idea!! Not considering the volatile nature of the liquid being pumped!!!

You can syphon an A class, do not use garden hose, go to a hydraulic hose specialist and get 5 metres of ''low pressure airline'' it will be the same bore as garden hose but is reinforced and all importantly clear (i have a 30 metre length of this as my car wash hose, umpteen times better than garden hose).

Cut the in tank end off at 45 degree angle (to get round the bends) and feed down the filler pipe, you will be able to get out all but the last few litres, which when refilled will not matter.
If you are no good at the syphoning action, nip to screwfix they do a hand primer pump for a tenner that will do nicely for filling the pipe.

I have also used an old fuel injection pump from a scrapper, which connected to the normal feed pipe from the tank will pump all the fuel out. Worth buying to keep for similar eventualities.

And most important, clean out the fuel lines and replace the fuel filter, and for good measure chuck in some millers diesel power sport 4.
