hi st nigel, have a petrol vito [a v class 230] with similar syptoms to you luckily i happen to be an mb auto electrician which helps! to remedy the problem i have replaced the lambda/oxygen sensor & it has run perfectly well ever since you dont need to buy it from mb either mine cost £40 not £105 + vat from my local parts supplier and was a 4 wire universal one, good luck.

thanks philsparky

thanks for reply, much apprechiated...Does it still sound like the lambada sensor if so how sure are you??

a few things have changed,,found a fractured vacuum pipe from a component??? behind o/s headlight that runs to the inlet manifold, made a good temp repair, now not so erratic when ticking over,,but still has a very bad flat spot causing it nearly to cut out giving a cough and splutter when pulling away,,,

New probs occured immediaetly after repairing the vacum pipe,,a horrible cat smell and signs of black smoke and condensation from the exhaust?..nigel
