The exhaust on my C-class started rattling just before Christmas. I got my local Merc enthuiast mechanic to have a look, and my worst fears were realised - one of the cats had gone.
However a quick check of my documents revealed it had a week's worth of used car warranty left, and catalytic converters are covered. First thing in the new year, I booked it in to my local dealer - and it was replaced FOC today! (And they washed and vac'd the car.)
It's a 2004 C240 Avantgarde - I wonder how much it would have cost if I was footing the bill - any ideas?

Hi Mark, it would have cost you £1500 for the pair, most people cut them out and weld up the box, and they all go through the MOT

Thanks Malcolm...good to avoid that sort of bill! My mechanic has an S-class and he transplanted the cats in his car in the manner you describe. He had suggested doing the same for me when I realised this could be one for the warranty.
