Hi All,
I have a 19998 E300 with 100k on her.
She has had 2 owners and has really been well looked after with full service history and the aesthetics of the car obviously telling a nice story.
This morning I changed the bulbs (main driving bulbs) from what was in there to some lovely shiny Philips H7 Extreme 80% brighter bulbs.
I fitted the right one first, removed the plastic waterproof cover over the lighting compartment, pulled out the bulb in its connection, removed the old bulb, put the new one in, replaced the unit and the waterproof shield and started the car expecting to see the sort of bright white light you see when you die, but all I got was a "ding" and a bulb fault indicator on the digital readout from the dash. I compared the two bulbs output, the new bulb in the right side and the old bulb in the left and could see no noticeable difference 9it was mega sunny though)
Now with me being a Geordie and being particularly bright I thought "ah" its because ive only replaced one and the car wants 2 new ones, so i then wrestled for an hour to remove the watertight shield on the left bulb (what a ball ache!!!) removed the bulb unit, replced the bulb, refitted the wayerproof shield and thought "ok this is going to blind any unlucky soul who just happens to be looking at my lights "so imagine the sinking feeling in my heart when i turned the lights on and once again I got the warning light. (at this point please start humming the benny hill theme tune in your head:-D )
So, I decided that the first one may have been fitted wrongly, so i took it all out again and refitted, again, warning light, and still what I perceive to be a candle yellow looking beam (mind you it was glorious sunshine whilst I was doing this and not the best conditions to test the brightness)
All of the lights on my car are working, full beam, dipped beam, fogs etc etc.
I have read people saying things like cleaning the contacts can help remove the warning light on the dash.
However I am about as technical as Anna nicole Smith:Oops: and have no idea where the contacts are and indeed what the look like!!
Any help that anybody can send my way would be massively appreciated.
Thanks for reading my ramblings all!
Michael
