i hve been on the lookout for a phone kit and today discovered a micro phone tucked away behind my sunvisor, and a speaker underneath the glove box there only seems to be the one wire going in to it, would it take much to get the kit wired up again

Sounds like an aftermarket kit. It shouldn't take much to wire it up. The control unit may be underneath the passenger floor, foot rest area. You'll find a polystyrene covered metal plate under the carpet and beneath that there is enough room, along with appropriate power connections to place most handsfree phone systems.
If the control unit is there then all that is needed is a cradle. It may not be a bluetooth one so if you find it check it out on the net for details.

follow the speaker wire and see where it leads.
Whether you can get it going is a tricky one as it may need spares, but you should be able to replace it with a Parrott or Nokia kit quite easily.
