Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
I'm betting that all those components have a huge markup, and that many of the parts they replaced could have been re-used.

I would write to DCUK at Milton Keynes and request a contribution - the problem is well known to them and really should have been fixed under warranty.

We have had 4 SLK's with the same problem where the expenive SAM must be replaced, but can be solved by a mod to the wiring, in these cases the mod that is quite cheap could have saved the owners over £1k. When the car goes in for service one would have thought that MB could have given the owner the choice of the mod and saved him the in eccess of a 4 figure bill, and the agro of have the car not lock or start in some cases.

It also bugs me when MB have to charge full retail for these mods that should have been done under a re call, they just want to take, take take.
They are greedy Bastards for most of the time.

just read the initail post here,
seems like the dealers thought cant isolate the exact problem, lets change every possible we can find.

there seems to have been a few posts about the dealers charging silly money lately, how can the service people sleep at night, dont know they know we have wife and child to feed and home.

Having the same car, I have checked off some of the rubbers changed.

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GA=722.633&CT=F&cat=65P&SID=79&SGR=055&SGN=02

Items 300 to 360 are the rubbers, ok they have got new part numbers now, a rubber seal 6" long costing £85+ is stupid, more so as the model is in current production.

I took my heater air intake today, its all like new down there, thank god I can do all of these jobs myself, including the rubbers if I had to.

I do have the service assist papers here and what is checked, but I feel its a little late now in your case.

The prices are nothing short of horrific.
