Picking up SLK from the factory

8) This is my first post so be gentle with me. We've just ordered a SLK and we're thinking about picking it up from the factory. Has anyone done this, is it worth it, is it expensive.

Not at all - it's the same price as delivery to the UK. (I looked into it but couldn't find the time to actually do it) The only restriction is that they only give you a couple of days' temporary registration and insurance, so you basically have to drive it straight from Stuttgart to the dealer where you ordered it to get your UK plates.

8) Thanks Jon. I did wonder how they got round registration and insurance. We will have to look into it with the dealer but a couple of days to get home is not long enough.

you get 5 days insurance to get back to the UK

I collected my C240 from the Bremen factory. It's a great experience. For the same cost as delivery from your dealer you get a flight to Bremen or Stuttgart (as appropriate), a night's B&B in a good hotel, transfers to the hotel and to the factory, an absolutely brillliant factory tour, handover of the car and paperwork, 5 days insurance and temporary plates, a full tank of fuel and a ticket for the ferry or Eurotunnel train back.

You can take other people with you if you pay the additional flight and hotel costs for them.
