Spot on, 7g one. The vanes disintagrated. :(

Wehay!

Thats shockingly bad though, that must have been been bad metal? (or severly overheated!?)

What with??? Bricks?

Who knows! contaminated fluid causes overheating overheating causes metal fatigue and hey presto - 'bricks' of metal;)

What sort of contamination would make it overheat? No signs of overheating, if water the plates would have gone 1st and there all good. This is the 1st convertor that we have seen this damage in, so I guess its not water as we see lots of those. All very strange. I would think and most hope its a one off faulty convertor.

If the fluid overheats as a result of overloading and the fluid breaks down then the vanes would start to overheat and deteriorate quite quickly.

On the other hand perhaps metal fatigue in one of the vanes brought on by a material defect, or even worse swarf left inside following manufacture - but that would in my view be extremely remote having seen these things being made and how they take great care in removing swarf then cleaning after machining etc
