I have a 2 litre W124 which has failed MOT because of high CO emmissions (should be 0.6 % actually shows 7 or 8%). It still runs OK with the exception of the engine hunting when hot and higher than expected fuel consumption. I have been unable to find sufficient details of this carburettor such as exploded diagrams, descriptions etc, to try and sort this out. A friend with access to Mercedes parts CD tells me that it says that the pierburg is "NOT ADJUSTABLE FOR EMISSIONS OR MIXTURE" which seems a bit strange. Since it was once within limits, it must be possible to bring it back by replacing parts ( Which Parts??) or making some form of adjustment.I have, in the past fixed SUs, Webers, Zeniths and numerous outboard carbs be replacing diaphragms , cleaning or replacing jets or needles or repalcing worn spindle bushes. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
