What fuel type does a 2000 (X) S320 Saloon run on:-

Premium Unleaded (95 RON) or Super Unleaded (97 RON) or can it run on both types of GO GO Juice. The MB Salesman said it was unleaded only but I?ve found some info on the net stating super only???

I intend to use the S320 to tow a caravan around Europe so this information will really effect my decision on buying the thing

Thanks in advance

You're looking at the wrong fuel type for towing. Buy a 320 CDi, you wont regret it.
Any extra purchase price will soon be recovered in fuel savings and the car will have considerably more torque for towing and general driving.

Yes, I know I'm biased, but not without good reason.

yeah, i agree... that is if you want to drive a £50k luxury vehicle that sounds like a tractor and you secretly would rather have paid that little bit extra for the upgraded performance of the 430. Ever wondered why so many CDI's are debadged? (I know because many of my friends of have/had such cars)

for God's sake man! I run my ML55 on normal unleaded with no problems. Super is only for high performance vehickles (we're talking Porsche 996's, Maserati's etc.) It really will make very little difference if at all! A must for all S-classes is that they should have COMAND (SAT NAV) and in a silver or black colour if you want the best residuals.

Hope I helped a little!

fuel

hi

I would have to agree with dieselman 320 cdi loads more torque for towing ( no unacceptable noise) . If you do buy petrol exact fuel type required for that vehicle is on a sticker inside the fuel filler flap ( at least MB got that one right)

Your friends de-badge thir CDis because of prejeduce from people like you!
They should have conviction that they have spent their money wisely and purchased a superior engine type with all round lower emissions.

Compared to a petrol 320 they will also have a more pleasurable driving experience due to the extra torque. Reduced gear changes and swifter real world acceleration.

Obviously if you compare the 320 CDi to a 430 you will not have the same power, or number of cylinders, but you will have the same or greater torque output. The 400Cdi engine will deffinately end all critisism of diesel. V8 4.0Cdi.

I read a report of this engine when under development, in an E class mule, about five years ago. It had to be mated to a V12 6 Litre auto-box as it was the only box strong enough to take the torque. Only four cars in the world generate more of the stuff.
Don't forget people buy cars for the power and then drive the torque!

I know plenty of people who de-badge petrol engined cars, infact more so than diesel. It's a snob thing.

I am not against your views re your own car, but that didn't come at the price of a 320CDi. Thinking about it nor does a petrol 320. For once the diesels were the cheaper option.

As far as buying one second hand the petrol may be a good buy for a low mileage driver, who doesn't want to tow, due to significantly higher depreciation.
