I have just picked up a replacement Gaiter from the local Parts supplier. It is a very sturdy looking rubber gaiter, really good quality. The one on the car is plastic. Which is best or isn't there any difference?

Hard to say really. I would assume rubber is more apt to changes in weather cf to plastic which gets brittle.

Post a write up on the replacement and hope it goes well!

Just found this online.
Since the mid 1990’s, many vehicle manufacturers have been making the transition to a new compound called ‘thermoplastic’ which is lighter, stiffer and harder wearing. On average, a First Line original equipment specification thermoplastic boot or gaiter should last for ten years.
