I have been trying to find a source to sell me the black plastic elongated triangular trims which go either side of SL R230 rear windows but there are none to be had, anywhere. I've tried the main dealer, ebay and trawled the internet.
They are parts numbers a2307920330 and a2307920430.
I'm thinking of asking a good local body shop if they can paint them in situ., I'm nervous about trying to take them out and breaking the tabs on the back. Has anyone ever tried painting these plastic parts or know of anywhere I can buy new ones?

Thank you very much

Geoff

Smart + others :)
This another part that is on back order for months, we have 3 sets on order at the mo. You could paint them, but it’s not the same shine as the original deep black Finnish. Be careful if removing, they generally snap the clips off or worse crack.

Thank you very much. I did actually order them from here back in March but after a few days they said they couldn’t supply them and refunded my money. Anyway, now they are re-advertising I’ve bought them again, better luck this time I hope

The company recommended by Craiglxviii above say they have 20 sets. I have ordered a pair and they have taken my money but I'll believe it when they arrive. I'll report back.

P.S. It’s strange that they are listed as OEM but the dimension are very slightly different between right and left but as I said, I’ll report back when they arrive.

M6 Cab - prior to that, SL63 AMG, A-M V8 Vantage, SL55, SL500 and many more
I had the same a few years back. Wrapped - looked good until the bubbles started to appear. Ended up getting then painted - could not tell the difference from new

Are the SLK panels removable? If they are its cheaper to buy new ones.

Quite possibly, but having watched a Youtube video of what's involved in removing and replacing them, I decided to go the paint route as I did not think replacing them was a job I could do myself (age and sausage fingers) so I'd have to pay a garage loads of time related costs as well as the cost of the parts. Vivid Visions in Ashford have done a couple of jobs for me before (roof and bonnet of the S204), did a superb job and have a superb reputation, thus are always busy, I was surprised that he could give me a date as early as mid October - October before last the first date he could give me to do the s204 was March, but he's now moved to much larger premises.

They have just emailed to say that these parts are not in stock, they'll give my money back.

I'm going to a good body shop I know tomorrow to ask about getting the originals painted.

That’s interesting. Online- fixparts usually don’t advertise anything not in stock.

Do let us know how you get on with the respray!

Also interested to hear what your local bodyshop quote for the job! Vivid Visions here in Ashford are well known not just for the quality of their work but also for their pricing, which is why they are always very busy - and obviously successful, as since I last visitied a year ago they've moved to new premices over twice the size of what they had when they did my S204, and now say they do 600 cars per month!

I would wait until replacements are available. Were about £50 each and a doddle to replace. They are very thin high gloss black plastic, only 2/3 mm thick with a clearcoat on top I think. I suspect most attempts to paint will have a limited life, but I suppose so do the originals! Glad I bought 4 when the originals on ours started to deteriorate.

I went to the body shop, they are very good, I always get work done with them. They quoted £220, I said it was too much and that members of the Mercedes club were getting them done for £160, he said £200 was his best price so, after months of trying to find originals with no luck, I just want it done so I've booked it in to be done on 13th.
I'll let you know the results

Just got the car back, they've done a great job, the trims look brand new and they didn't break any clips when they took them off so they went back on fine. All's well that ends well.:)

I'm hoping for a similar result for my Lamello sunroof panels, when I feel brave enough.

Autumn coming heavy rain, what could possibly go wrong ....

Hope I'll be able to report similar when mine are done next month - surprised to hear they took them off, don't know if Vivid Visions plan the same or paint them in situ.
