I find I can't play rewritable audio CD's (CD-RW) on my MB Audio 10 radio/single slot CD in my E280 (W-reg).
The message "CD error" is displayed and the CD is ejected.

Do other members have the same problem and is there a solution ?

Simple solutions - either upgrade your head unit to something compatible or.......stick to CDRs, they're also cheaper

CDRW's won't play in many in-car units other than some of the very latest. I can't see its worth an upgrade unless you're planning one anyway.
Just copy to a CDR and use that instead.
Dave B is right IMHO; RW's are a waste, CDR's are so cheap now you can afford to bin one if you botch it.

Not all modern laser pickups are compatible with CDR. that's because they generally have a lower reflectivity than the normal CDs. However, if you try the premium brands with the gold reflective layer, rather than the cheepo blue ones, you'll find they probably will work.

You will find that a lot of new CD players actually advertise on the box that they will play copied CD's. You will also find that any CD head unit made prior to the Recordable CD revloution should play them no problems.

Hi
Arnie is actually right here if you spend out on decent Silver CDR's you wont have a problem in 99% of players
, The gold disks seem to work in ~%80 of players

Whilst the blue only usually work in Players that are certified CDR compatible

I have loads of experience of this .... I know its probably not quite the right thing but when I buy a CD I copy it for my 10disk in my car..

I have happily run gold CDR's in my Kenwood and Mercedes units.

I think CD-RWs are a different standard to CDRs. The player has to be able to recognise that they're CD-RW and then invoke different software to interpret them. The Mercedes units don't have this capability. I've got an MB10 single CD player. It plays CDRs OK mostly, but has a great deal of difficulty with the 80 minute ones, and you definitely need reasonable quality discs or it has trouble working out where to start. Put your CDRWs onto good quality 74 minute CDRs.

Hi,

Thank you all very much for your advice, much more extensive than info through my local MB dealer !

TDK CD-R 74 min. certainly plays absolutely fine!
