First would like to say Hello to all and please forgive my lack of knowlege regarding Mercedes. I have just purchased a C180 1998 In fact haven't even got her home yet. A few miner scuffs nothing dreadful but one thing that is bugging me is a small part thats missing on the what I take to be the skirting . She has 4 little square pieces that I think you remove to put the jack on(Have I got that right?) 2 each side. I'd like to know the correct term for it and how easy it is to replace. Any help would be very welcome Thanks

Ruth,
I think what you're referring to are the jacking point plugs. They are not difficult to replace, or at least I managed to get one from my local dealer last year for my 1998 E class and it wasn't too expensive from what I remember.

Many people do what I did - change a wheel in the dark and pouring rain and then leave it at the roadside! Although to have four missing seems a bit much.

Anyway welcome to the MB owners. I hope that you'll have many enjoyable years with your new car. Bare in mind that spare parts from the dealers can be surprisingly competitive, although their hourly, labour rate is not.

When ordering anything have your VIN to hand (it's easily read on the strip beneath the windscreen) and that will ensure that you get the correct part for your car.

It could be cheaper to get 4 from a breaker, that way you can get them the right colour

Welcome, and I hope you really enjoy your car.

I had a similar problem with my C Class about five years ago, jacking point cover fell off after a wheel had been changed.

Went to the dealer and asked for a replacement, didn't even bother with Vin or anything, just asked if it was the round or square one. He went around the back and came out with one, charged £1.50. Tried it on the car, perfect fit, so decided I would have a spare. Went back in asked for another, he just gave me three more and said "no charge, not worth the paper work"!

So they must be a stock item (or at least they were then).

Give the dealer a try and Good luck
