Hi All,

I have a wonderful 300CE that has been pampered all it's life by a wealthy retired gent and I now have it...

It's in ****** amazing nick and while I still have the silly grin I got after a finding it and b driving it, it has a problem.

The cold start keep on cranking issue, which I think is the OVP but where do I find the offending widget.

And the interior light works on every setting except the one when the door opens, I have pulled the unit out and everything seems in order, (the rear light doesnt come on door opening either, only manually.

Any help will be gratefully recieved.

Cheers

Rob

Hopefully it will be located in the same place as that on my E280 saloon..if it is, it sits next to the ECU's on the passenger side, behind the battery and behind the black plastic cover that protects the ECU's.

The OVP is to the right of the ECU's, is about 3 inches high with a fuse on the top.

You have to remove the battery to get to it and after that its a 5 minute job.

Can't help re lights I'm afraid.

Sounds like you have found yourself a nice motor....whats the spec, mileage etc

Not all cold-starting problems with the 300E engine and the KE-jetronic are due to the infamous OVP relay. Suspect the relay only if it really takes for ever to start. Note that this relay also provides power to the ABS on some models and so its failure would make itself known with the ABS warning light.

I have had a mild cold-starting problem (need to crank for 15 - 20 secs) for years and have checked every valve and every relay and all the ignition system. The only solution is to adjust the mixture setting screw on the injection system.

For the lights, start by checkin all the door pin-switches carefully by removing them and cleaning them.

Can't help with the starting problem (I've got a diesel!). But I had the same problem with my lights the rear light wouldn't come on when the back passenger door was opened (so that's another difference between my 124 and yours!). Anyway I removed the switch and one of the wires had become disconnected. Connected it up and it works perfectly now.

Cheers

rear courtesy light problem

the rear courtesy light is not supposed to come on when the door is opened on the coupe you have a rocker switch in the middle of the dashboard. could be cos there are only two doors! hopefully save you some time looking for a fault which isnt there!!!!

pjh yes I know a coupe only has two doors (but the saloon also has the rocker switch). The point I was making was that it could be a loose cable :D
