I bought a new car in march 2004 , it is a w203 c180K classic se - paid 20050 gbp for it (metallic silver etc) . From new there were rattles coming from both front seatbelt adjusters and the center console. The car has been to the dealer 3 times to deal with it and on monday it is going back AGAIN!! What do you think i should do? Would they change it for another one at cost price? Advice gratefully received!

Steve

needless to say i am not happy at all, my last car - a bmw 3 series had no problems at all!

just found out that i was lied to. The dealer told me that if i wanted the peronal collection service that the car would then only have 2 years warranty and not 3 !! Apparently this is not the case! What should i do?

In the first instance I would craft a letter to the dealer outlining the areas of dissatisfaction you have with the car and the level of service you have had from the dealership thus far. However you should take legal advice first or talk to your local trading standards office.

In the letter cover the allegation about the lying over warranty.

Conclude by requesting a response in writing to the points you have made as soon as possible and in any event within 28 days.

It may be the dealer will make good if not you need to way up your options and be clear about what you have actually 'lost' or been 'cost' in monetary terms. It may be that a small claims court route will deliver satisfaction without the risk of legal expense.

After that take legal advice. You may also wish once you have a 'collection of letters' to forward them to MBUK and MB Head Office in Germany.

Best of Luck and let us know how you get on.

Well, the dealership hae replied. The dealer that lied to me is denying this... ah , my word against his i guess.

Very disappointing from mercedes - i have always been a bmw driver b4 this and i feel i will be returning to the marque soon...

My c class will now be going in 5 times to deal with rattles... my bmw never had a single rattle from new until 5 years old when i changed it for the mercedes which has had them from new.... my merc has now does 3304 miles in 2.5 months from new and rattles constantly..

Can anyone help? Any MB MD's out there?
:x

Hello,

If it's an official personal collection (ie you paid the same as for UK delivery and were given free airtickets, 5-day's insurance and hotel accomodation when collecting the car, then the warranty is exactly the same as the UK, 3-years. It will say all this in the personal collection scheme details in official leaflets or on the MB website. If you (or the dealer) tried to save money by doing a kind of personal import, then the standard warranty is 2 years (as if orederd through an internet car broker, for example). However, as the C-class is built in SA, I'm not sure how collection from Germany is arranged (??).

Anyway, I would try to get you problems sorted by another, more helpful, dealer. By all means write a letter of complaint to DC in Milton Keynes. Their new policy is to follow up complaints and get the offending dealer to contact you and make good, if at fault.

But, yes, I would have bought a BMW (and did). The build quality on the new C-Class is definately not up to much and many articles in car magazines have mentioned this too.
