PLEASE advise IF under the bonnet of a 190e there is any form of sound/heat insulation covering the whole span of the underside of the bonnet?

If there is anyone out there who can be of help I would be grateful, 2 weeks ago I took my car to get the resprayed the bonnet and all four doors as they all had scratches dents etc....I get back form holiday expecting it to be done and ready and the guy had not even started, he did the whole thing in less than a day I am sure and I picked the car up and made a fatal mistake of taking a look while it was WET and not thinking twice and paying the guy. I get home it dries and hey presto apart from the overspray he has only touched up and blended in the major scratch on the bonnet and it looks crap! cost me 450 that too much for such a poor job!!!!I am angry and feel like an idiot for parting with the cash :(

there should be a foam insulating/sound deadening layer under the bonnet.

450 seems a lot to get just one panel painted... especially if you're not happy with the result. don't want to contribute to your obvious discomfort about the whole thing ... wonder if you could take it back and have a discussion with the sprayer about his work?

I have a 190E 2.6 and it has soundproofing on the underside of the bonnet. I've just replaced it and the main dealer charged me £50 for the right preshaped piece. With £6 worth of spray glue its all done and dusted.

there is a place called 'forest fine' that sells all kinds of merc trim. - see robshapcott@hotmail.com - they do the insulation pad but it's not that much cheaper than the delaer - 32 instead of 40 quid I think - so not a big deal & i've no odea what the quality is like. Maybe worth an email thou.

My 190E has foam insulation under the bonnet but it doesn't cover the whole of the underside. It covers the triangular shaped areas over the battery and over the brake fluid reservoir and along a narrow strip at the rear of the bonnet from one side to the other. There is no insulation immediately above the engine.

i would agree with the above as my 190e-1.8 1993 had a similar insulation.

I've seen several C-Class bonnets and some have 1/2 insulation like mine some have full. Doesn't seem to be model specific. Just hit and miss really.
I'm planning on getting a full insulation soon.
