Re: C180 1999

Hi,

I am struggling to establish if my key is faulty or my EIS... My car doors do not open with the key neither does the car start ie when key inserted i dont hear the clicking noise and the steering lock does not come off.

How do I establish what is faulty... Is there a way of checking the key before i pay £200 for a new one. (I do not have a spare). This was the best car i have ever had before this problem started... Please help.

Many Thanks

the ir only opens the doors, theres a chip in the key that has to be recognised by the EIS, ie, you could unlock the door with the blade key, alarm would sound, put the key in and it will turn alarm off and start, i suspect that the EIS is at fault, very common!!

Do you know any1 who repairs EIS... Do you think if i reprogram the key it will work... Does the EIS need to be working for the doors to open (Central locking).

Many Thanks

Smart + others :)
On the other hand, if you only have one key, what happens when that goes wrong,( either lost or dropped) you will have no back up. So buying another key is not a waste of money.

Very true, just by dropping a DAS 11 key, the coil can fall off and thats it
