Hi all,

Apologies for the urgency of the title, but I really want to take my new car away on holiday on Monday, so I'm panicking slightly!

The car is a 2002 CLK (W209), and I spent this evening removing the door card, speaker and door lock in order to replace the lock spring and solve the bouncing lock problem.

I disconnected the battery to do the job, but reconnected with the door card still removed in order to check that everything was working. First I tried putting the window all the way down and then all the way up again. And then I tried locking the car and was delighted to find that this door lock now works perfectly.

GREAT... except that the window wasn't going all the way up to the top. It was stopping at its slightly-dropped position for opening and closing the door.

If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be amazingly grateful. I'm theorising that I've somehow done something that means the car no longer knows that the door is closed.

My questions are...

(1) Is there any chance that this is just the result of disconnecting the battery, and that it can be 'reset' or some such thing?

(2) If not, any idea what I've done, and if it can be fixed?

(3) Should I just order a new door lock and be done with it?

Really hoping that someone more knowledgeable than me reads this!

Thanks,

Martin

Sorry... follow up question...

(4) If I do need a new lock, are they unique to the W209 CLK, or shared with other models?

Have you tried resetting the widows? Put window down first click and hold for 10 seconds then all way up for ten seconds? Key needs to be in first ignition stage if I remember correctly

Thanks for the suggestion. I've just been out and tried that in the way the chap in the video does it, but alas no joy :(

The passenger window does go all the way to the top when you first put it up after reconnecting the battery, but instantly drops down a notch and then won't go up again.

Put the door card back on. The small plastic surround that goes around the door latch, secured with a single screw, operates the door closed switch pin. Without it the window won’t shut completely
Oh you absolute legend - bit dark now, but I'll try that first thing tomorrow and post an update.

THANK YOU!

@Uncle Benz I imagine I don't need to tell you that that worked - I expect you could hear the sigh of relief I let out the first time I shut the door with the door card back on!

Thanks again for being on hand to answer questions from the less knowledgeable at that time of night. It always makes working on a project car more enjoyable when you find there's a decent forum full of helpful people who don't mind sharing what they know. Thank you.

If the weather holds I'll be doing the same job on the driver's side this evening, and then hopefully I will have two working door locks. Happy days :)

You are very welcome. That is what this forum is all about. Please continue to be an active member. Even the smallest input can be useful and it’s a great community here - probably one of the most inclusive forums I frequent.
