Hey everyone, so I recently had to replace the battery on my 2010 c- class due to it no longer holding power. I replaced it yesterday and my high beam and fog warning light on dash stays on even when the key isn’t in the ignition including when it’s locked.

My horn, indicators and window wipers no longer work. I’ve just tried starting the car and it won’t start I’m guessing something must be draining the new battery. Does anybody know what the problem could be ?

Thank you

Hello and welcome,

The battery wasn't connected the wrong way around initially was it? - causes lots of issues if it has...

I'd be checking the front SAM for water ingress as well.

Welcome to the forum.
Assuming that the car didn't display these issues before you replaced the battery I have to ask.
Is it connected with the correct polarity?
Is there anything that you had to move or disconnect in order to remove the battery that may not have been reconnected or put back?
Is the battery correctly earthed?

I would make sure that the battery is connected correctly and that the terminals are tight. Quite possibly blown a fuse or two or damaged something whilst changing the battery… perhaps connected the negative first or touched the chassis…

Hi, sorry I should have stated the just before my battery went flat the first time my horn was going of in the middle of the night and the high beam and fog lights would randomly flash along with the alarm sounding. I didn’t have to move anything else to change the battery and it’s placed correctly. I drove my yesterday for a short time until realising the indicators didn’t work. I did leave the engine running a while to see if it would rectify anything but no luck. My fan kicked in just after starting the car yesterday too.

Thank you

Perhaps it's the alarm draining the battery.
I had lots of issues with my old battery even though the car started and everything seemed to work. Did you check the charge of the new battery prior to fitting as often people infer it may of been sat on a shop shelf for a long time and lost some charge.
I think it's taken my car a week to reach top condition.

But as I said, the horn and lights flashing sounds like a possible alarm fault to me.

Anywhere near Blackpool and I can help you try to sort it. Two heads better than one

A battery in poor condition will throw up all sorts of problems.
MBs don't like kike short trips, not enough time to re-charge the battery.
If you find the instruments/indicators not working when starting the car,
run at fast idle (1500RPM) for about a minute, switch off and REMOVE the key.
Start the car again and every thing should work.

I have noticed our Landrover gives a little "chirp" on the alarm siren when you turn the starter on a cold morning, especially if it hasn't been driven for a few days.

It's probably a low battery warning, or a little sign of protest - "Hey - buy me a new battery"

The main battery is over 12 years old now, so probably time to bite the bullet.

The battery I've just replaced was the original MB battery and it's a 2011 car so done well.

MB batteries rock.
To the OP sounds like you connected the wrong way and got some sparks??
As the horn and indicators sound like the alarm siren is dead - they do fail - under a wheel arch.
