This has to be a poor earth / ground connection somewhere near the dash

I would check the earths on the rear tailgate as well and also check the wires for breaks where they feed from body to tailgate, it would appear your power is backfeeding thru the instrument cluster causing it to light up.. you should get this checked cos heated rear screens and wiper motors take a load of power... dashboards dont... electricity and water always take the path of least resistance why cant humans do the same ..just a thot

I had the same problem on a different car, and it was a bad earth problem.

Hi,
Illumination of certain parts of the dash cluster remain on even when the car is locked only extinguishing after 30 seconds or so,

its points towards an earth problem and I would agree with the chaps above - sounds like either the dash printed circuit board or the tailgate itself - or the wiper motor.
Disconnect the wiper electrics and see if this helps - if yes, then you need to look at the motor or wiring to it
If not then run a separate earth wire from body to tailgate and see if this helps. If not, try similar approach at dash board. Keep us posted as to how you get on. Good luck

You really need an auto electrician for faults like this. cos generally they are usually fairly simple but can be a devil to find.. the earth is the wire that is screwed to the car body, usually brown or black wire. but modern cars are electronically controlled thru ecu's and all kinds of gizmos. Power control and indeed circuit amperage is controlled by the ecu's so the fault could even be a dry solder joint on a circuit board , but faulty earth is normally the first port of call, see if somone on here knows a good spark near you, and he has to be an auto spark..domestic sparks know absolutely nothing about cars, they cant even drive properly.....haha

turned out to be a loose tailgate earth in headlining causing the fault, all sorted. cheers.
