If you have a problem put in your post and you will probably get it answered, the reason why I PM members about resetting service lights as these have different combinations for different models. If you post them on the forum and someone tries it on a model it?s not meant for they could do damage to their ECU, you seem to be very unhappy about PM,s. You are always asking people to post there answers on the forum you can?t possibly have all these problems or better still have all these different models so as I said before if you have a problem with your car put in a post and leave others to deal with the way they want to answer.

I totally agree with 190 that is the reason for having a PM link on the forum it is used to pass information between one and other I expect if you had a problem you would be grateful of a pm with a cure to you problem. Do you feel as if you are missing out on something, Hope you are not feeling lonely or left in the lurch.

I agree with watsone here. When people leave the forum that PM goes with them :(

The answer is simple when you post the question, Choose a clear title. Then _clearly_ state the problem, the model, A variant if you know it . Then as a courtesy at the end of the post the person asking the question should round up the information given, and put a "How To" together explaining how they solved the issue ( attribute the sources of the information and maybe a thankyou to those who helped out in sorting the issue ) I think that this is especially worth doing in a situation where no one could help you as you are able to give something back to the forum...

Then in six months when the next person comes along they can search all posts = W204 trim issues and get a fair chance of finding the problem and a solution...

:)

As i said in my previous post the reason why I PM members about resetting service lights as these have different combinations for different models. If you post them on the forum and someone tries it on a model it?s not meant for they could do damage to their ECU, and they would be very unhappy if they damaged their ecu because they are very expensive. I hope this clears matters up and stops the ill feelings about PM,s.

At the end of the day how you wish to impart information is your choice :) It's very nice of the experienced guys here to educate the newbie?s.
As for the complex, and diverse nature of the answers: If the posts are marked with the correct model and variant information, then if someone wants to blow their E class ECU trying a C class reset method, then they are the one to blame... I was recently given some advice on another forum, and it so happened that the build method had changed between our models. So I reversed out of what I was trying to do found the correct answer for my model variant and posted a new how to both here and on the other forum. I also thanked the chap that took the trouble to explain the procedure in the first place. I doubt that many other people needed to know how to fix a window alignment on an SL but now that information is in the public domain, and if they want it they can find it for themselves. If, I was to stop posting to these forums, I will not have taken my contribution with me.

Best regards,

Peter

Totally agree with you peter but I must also agree with 190 in my opinion it is a good idea to PM the person if it?s a technical question that is getting answered due to the malfunctions of other electrical units if the correct procedure is not adhered to.
On the other hand I agree with what you say as it?s nice to share experience with other members.
