I wonder if Mr Benz sits up in heaven a bit p#ssed off due to the fact when anyone talks about his cars nobody really mentions the man himself?

Most people are probably like me who say "Merc" or "Mercedes" named after Emil Jellinek's daughter though i suppose at least Karl's name is on the car unlike Gottlieb Daimler who gets his name stuck at the bottom of headed paper as the companies trade name.

You are absolutely correct. I gave this a good airing in a thread quite a while ago (http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showpost.php?p=251862&postcount=43 ). Have a skull through that and improve on it by all means.

If you read for relaxation, there are some excellent books on the subject. "Enduring Passion" by Leslie Butterfield is a substantial work by a man commissioned to write on the genesis and development of the MB Brand. It gives a nice description of the ethos of the 2 limbs of the company and how they coalesced. (ISBN 0-470-01802-X) Probably available through MB dealers or online.

Another favourite of mine is the complete story of the Mercedes SL Series by Andrew Noakes (ISBN 1-86126-673-1).

If anyone is struggling to choose you a gift for a birthday or at Christmas, metion of these might help you both.
