Pop-up bonnet/hood star anyone?

Hey there guys. I have a pop-up MB star on the front of my 1978 280ce and wandered if anyone else had one? The little git it not going up and down - to the extent the pervious owner put zip ties around the shaft to stop it moving. I do not know if this runs off its own motor or is linked to the mystical vaccume system (still new to me!). Thinking it could be a motor I have looked through ebay for a replacement but have not managed to find another car with a pop-up??! Are they rare / strange optional extras? What's the story morning glory? :-D

yes they are rare - I've only ever seen one - and that was on an old S in Lanzarote. I suspect theya re linked to the locking vacuum system but I'm afrtaid you'd have to strip it down yourself as finding another or someone who knows them is highly unlikley.
