Possible ECU Failure on 00 E 320 CDI Est

I have had an ongoing loss of power issue on my 00 E320 cdi Est, indepent service guy said all along that it was not a problem with the MAS.
I have put up with the problem untill now, car will not go over 2,500 revs, which is fine untill you want to overtake. On this service my Garage said they would definitely get to the bottom of the problem. He switched a mas from a car with no problems on to my car, no change. He hooked it up for diagnostics on his Machine and he could not read the ECU, he could see airbag info etc but not the ECU, he tried a couple of other local garages and they could not read it either, in the morning he is going to bring it to a Mercedes garage to see if they can read it, he has prepared me for the Possibility that i will need a new ECU and he tells me to be prepared for big expense!!!. Has anybody heard of this happening before.

With such a modern car you really ought to take it yourself to an official Merc dealer and get the codes read, and you will then know from the horses mouth what they found - as it looks as if the engine is in limp-home mode.

ECU's rarely fail for no reason and 35% of those sent for repair are found to be good.

It's probably to do with your turbo and associated components and you need an expert that understands the Merc set-up of those components.

mmm, 99% of the ones i get (mising on 2 ) are repaired !
i may be able to check this one too,if its an ecu fault

See all similar problems with the ML270. Sounds like same symptoms.
In laws ML now running fine, speed sensor and exhaust were changed.( apparently the cat was duff )
