Hello Peeps, long time no post! I've been very busy with the house just recently, ok for nearly the last eight/ nine months tbh, lol. Got to keep Swmbo happy eh?
Lounge gutted and taken back to the bare shell, new much larger radiator and pipes for more heat, new floor, all hanging pictures reframed, rewiring of the electrics, an alcove boxed in, plastered and then all repapered and painted. Thank God it's finished and hopefully, with the occasional refresh, should see us both out. Well nothing major hopefully to deal with.
Anyhoo, my son came to visit today and while chatting with him about a potential joint purchase of a Nissan Primera GT (an old favourite of mine and his), Swmbo pipes up that I'm not allowed to get involved, as my TT isn't getting that much use as it is, so what's the point in wasting more money on another car?
Plus, she makes the admission that she's never liked the TT, my hairdressers car, as she calls it, in her not so humble opinion.
Shock horror! I thought I had found the perfect car for me, the Quattro system just made it handle and feel sublime, my only regret about the car is the lack of head room and the care with which I had to take when moving around inside. I was however, willing to compromise somewhat to enjoy my toy.
Now Modom, has given me the excuse to get back into the fold again.
So, after almost two years ownership of my TT, I have been looking at what might be considered, a lateral movement, to an SLK 250 CDi, around a 2010 to 2014 so that I can continue to use my private plate and stay within the budget, now as we all know I like a diseasal power plant, however after the beautiful V6 that graced the engine bay in my C207 Coupé I'm a little worried that the 2.1 will seem a little, hmmm...staid? The figures on paper, look not to shabby, but, ideally I'd like an experienced opinion regarding the measure of the get up and go please.
I am well aware, that to the purists among you, I will be commiting sacrilege by even suggesting buying a diseasal sports car, however, what can I say? I like em.
My main concern is the fold away roof and just how water tight it is, or is not, as the case may be and what the routine maintenance, servicing and brakes are like to deal with in comparison to the V6 which I found quite easy to do myself. I seem to remember a few folk complaining about the difficulty in remapping the 2.1 as well, perhaps there has been an improvement in that respect? (I hope) As the increased BHP is something I've gotten used to with the TT.
So, any suggestions (of the positive variety please) and information regarding my preferred choice of transport would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys and, if all goes to plan, it'll be good to be back. I've missed the banter.
Jimbo.
