Hi all,
I have a clk230 kompressor 2001 108,500 miles which has gone into "safe mode". Apparently this is a problem with the secondary air induction side of things. The car has had a new air mass meter and vacumn switch all to no avail. When fault is reset I get full power for about 24 hours then it slips back into safe mode. Has anyone come across this because it is certainly foxing the auto electrician?

Thank you for that information. The car is still under warranty with 2 weeks to go but as it has not yet been cured and is still being looked at by the garage and auto elec then all I can do is wait untill they are out of options. Do I print the possible solution off and give it to them?

Regards,

Andrew

Ongoing lack of power

Hi all,
Have had all the secondary induction replaced ( MAF, various switches and solenoids ) and had to take it to MB dealer to clear fault codes. The car performed brilliantly for 600 miles to and from London ( 38.2 avg mpg :D!!!!) and then went into "limp mode" again!! This time no engine fault light has come on. Have booked it into MB and will keep you informed as to what they find.

Cheers,

Andrew

Your Mercedes
2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
This will be the new MAF that has packed up, you can unplug it to test and see if the car comes back to life

I spent most of the day at MB in Liverpool and they said that everything was running within the required parameters but they think that there is a split vacumn pipe somewhere.....I asked the obvious question as to how long will it take to find it and was told that they are ontop of it. I have left the car there and have been told that it will be found tomorrow morning. Hope they are right!!! I will make the suggestion tomorrow about the faulty MAF Malcolm, if they dont get anywhere with identifying the split vacumn pipe.

Regards,

Andrew.

As malc said, could be the two brass breathers in the head, the valve T piece or a one way "flame trap" valve at the very back of the head. Could also be the supercharger actuator flap. It really needs someone to look at it who has good knowledge of how everything works. Unfortunately, we can only have a educated guess here, as this is quite a complex system.

Resolved power issues

Hi to all.

Sorry I have not posted any information on the outcome of the limp mode situation. At this time the problem seems to be cured. In the end, after numerous visits to MB Liverpool, they traced the fault to a valve underneath the inlet manifold. I will endeavour to find out what it is called for our information and to possible help others with the same or similar problems. At this stage I have to say that Mercedes Benz of Liverpool have been absolutely fantastic in there determination to get to the bottom of the problem and i have nothing but praise for them even though it took a while. Between them and the original auto electrician, I have had all of the secondary induction parts replaced including MAF etc. Should last for a while!!!! Just touched some wood!!

I will try and get the full list of parts replaced and the timescale/order in which they were fitted.

Cheers,

Andrew.
