The trouble with owning the first example of a car you dont know if what caught your attention is a problem or if it was designed that way, the power sterring on my 190 works as I'm writing this but it feels ever so slightly "slow".

I'm making comparisons with the van I drive which is very light and quick witted, the Merc feels a little ponderous by comparison.
Might the pump be tired or is the action I describe typical...? Its not noisy beyond a hum which can be heard when steering with the bonnet up.

the 190E is not over-assisted, say like a Jaguar or similar. this is to retain some steering 'feel'. as long as your fluid level is correct, and there are no untoward noises/leaks from the system in use, then you're ok.

Cheers for that I just check the fluid level and it looks fine. O
On my way to work I go through a series of tight s-bends
which the car takes at about 45 mph my Corsa was okay up to 50. so
I guess the steerings okay then! :)

Out handled by a Corsa?!?!?!?!?!?

If your cornering slower in your 190E than a Corsa then I think your suspension needs looked at. Not your steering!

Mercedes aren't generally noted for pin-sharp handling but it should be better than that.

Most Corsas bar the new one have terrible handling. What one did you have? Was it modified?

Either way I would be inclined to get your shock absorbers and suspension bushes checked out.

:D Vidfletch I take it you saw my pix link on another thread? Anyway the shocks are shot (see thread elsewhere) I'm getting the rears done this week, with front to follow ie after wllet recovers! Oh the Corsa was a bog standard 1.2 and the handling was....safe! :)
