Hi there

I've recently purchased a 1999 E55.

The power steerin fluid is a little low, so I'm going to refill it.

Does it need a special fluid, or is it just standard fluid? I have 'Slick 50' which I purchased from Halfords. I assume this will be ok?

I ask this because I know that gear oils have different 'dot' grades and it's essential to get the right one.

What do you think guys??

Thank u!

I would'nt put anything in except the correct oil. I would phone up a dealer on Saturday morning & see if someone can just top it up. If this is all it needs I'll be suprised if they want to charge you.

Hydraulic

That's interesting. I read online that Mercedes fluid is for the 'Hydraulic' system.

But I assume all power steering systems are hydraulic??

I can't imagine a Mercedes dealer doing anything for free. Or maybe that's just the Cardiff branch :p

What do you think on this hydraulic thing??

Thank you!!

Mercs use different oils in some PAS to others. Depending on year, spec, ABC, estate with rear leveling, etc etc. Either way, best to use their own. If you think you will be charged then just buy a bottle. Parts dept. will be able to supply correct oil by checking chassis number.

Deffinately not Slick 50:???: Power steering is usually filled with some form of automatic transmission fluid, make sure you get the right spec

There are two types of power steering fluid that MB use, they are different colours I bought some top up fluid recently for mine which is a W211. Grade "MB345.0 hydraulic fluid A 001 989 2403" (green) there should be a label on the top of the filler cap with you required spec.

good company

By the way - except for the PS fluid - the above company look very good. They seem to undercut the RRP, not by much mind - but any saving is a bonus!

Just don't buy your Power Steering fluid there
