Hi MB Community...

I've got question about the power tailgate on my C-Class S204 Estate.

Operationally it works fine - opens and closes and locks etc.. and the the buttons do what they should.

However when I open it at the last second at full opening it makes a *clunck* like it drop slightly and locks? Is this normal? I haven't seen any others to know.

It's only on the passenger side - could I have a leaky gas strut on the passenger side? Car is 10 yrs old now....have attached a part diagram and number...

Any advice appreciated...

It could be the operating rod ball joint, at it’s fully open position see if there is any play where the ball joint connects to the tailgate there may be something loose or wear on the ball joint end. I would lubricate the ball joint and hinges with light engine oil as a first measure it may be just dry

I had a nightmare with mine and resolved thanks to malcolm above.
I found dry bike oil was the best fix.
Oil the hinges, the ball joint and drop a bit on the struts where they retract.
Mine was worse than yours but I know the 'clunk'
After lubricating it becomes a reassuring 'tick'
