During a search on the Forum I was very interested to come accross this thread: http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=14209&highlight=cleaning+fuses

...as almost the exact same thing has happened to me, but my sunroof is gone as well as the other electrical functions listed in that thread.

So, armed with my bunch of new fuses and electrical contact cleaner I am wondering if there are any particular hints or tips wrt the actual cleaning of the fuse/relay contacts? Should I just apply the cleaner and let it do its work? Or does it need a little elbow grease to remove contamination, etc? Cotton buds/Q-tips good to use?

Any advice appreciated.

By using a non drying cleaner lubricant you should not have further problems with them all.

These things are only flash coated and the coating is very thin, so do not polish.

If you can get products by Electrlube they are the best CPC, RS or Farnell but there are many others out there

As usual, television, quick and useful response. Thanks.

So I take it that I should apply the cleaner and let it do it's business?

I would use contact cleaner - Isopropyl Alcohol - as above and use gently with cotton buds. You have to use common sense not to get bits of cotton in sockets etc but on fuse blades I think it's quite straightforward.

Servisol 10 from MAPLIN http://www.maplin.co.uk is a good switch/contact cleaner and lubricant, used this many times and it has always come up trumps.:)

Thank you Dosco many of the big firms have stopped sell the lubricating type and Servisol products, its quite important as it stops the plated contacts fron oxidisation

Thanks guys for your responses.

Just to close this one out - new set of fuses and a quick clean of the contacts (including relays, whilst I was at it) has sorted the problems (no wiper, main beam flash, electric windows, sunroof, rear window demister).

Regards,
