Pre Owned G Class

I have just seen this advertised by Mercedes Edinburgh.
I am sort of indifferent to the G Class, although I can see how it is highly regarded by many.
This one is a December 2020 G 63 covered 11,000 miles and it has a substantial amount of extras, enough to buy a brand new entry level Vauxhall Corsa (or equivalent).
When I seen it I thought to myself thats not going to be cheap, but I still got a shock when I found out how much it is on sale for.
I was going to invite guesses but I will just tell you - £178k, although you would get £1 change from that.

Way out of my price range but a friend of mine ordered two new ones a while ago he drove one of them for 6 months or so then sold it for more than he paid.

We seem to be living in strange times in the car market but there is money to be made if you know what you are doing and have enough cash.

Birmingham have/did a 19 Plate G63. 41.000 miles. £142k.

G is the best 4x4 by far but newer than 2005 will have a lot of the new electronic rubbish on. I like the g400 v8. But to pricey for me now. Tho I wud. Far rather have that in preference to a tractor with shed bolted on (and still leaking water!!)

crazy money for a car. the g are the only mercs that hold value, but still no rationale for such ludicrous prices.

A good friend of mine used to be an MB salesman & has driven a few of these on delivery runs.He was not very impressed with the experience.

I had a look at the current price list and the top of the range G 63 Magno Edition starts at £193k.
Amazingly it does 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds! Now my car is no slouch at 4.9 but I cant even imagine going almost half a second quicker in a vehicle of this size and weight.
Mercedes say it is capable of 17.7 mpg, so I expect some owners might see single figure fuel consumption.
I think a new car in this class is reserved for successful business owners, footballers (or other multi millionaire sports stars) and lottery winners.
If I won the lottery I might consider one as my daily runabout.

"Might" as they're almost exclusively used for driving around town centers I don't think drivers will ever get above single digit economy...
