Hi All

Again can anyone advise on why the tyre pressure's  on the 500SE are 36psi back,33 front.
I'd have thought the bigger of them would have been on the front with the weight of the engine,or is my theory all wrong.
Also this not what I was goin' to ask,but is "normal" for the geardox to go "clunk" when you put it into drive/reverse,or do I just need a top-up of oil?.
I hate it you cant remember what you were goin' to say,I guess Iv'e got "auld timers" disease,oh well!.

Regards

No it's not normal to get a "clunk", you have probably got wear in the drive train somewhere, IE prop, axle, or driveshafts, either way be prepared to dig deep into your wallet!!

To avoid that irritating clunk, take a bit of time when shifting from reverse to drive and vice versa, rather than flicking between the 2. If i grind to a halt, and go straight into reverse, i get a clunk as well, however go through neutral slowly then into reverse (and vice versa) and the clunk isnt  there. A very inexpensive way of stopping the noise!!

As for the tyre pressures, cars generally always have higher pressures at the rear for load carrying. as a rule the weight at the front of a car never really changes, but the rear it does, hence the higher pressures. If you look in the manual it will say increase the rear pressure for carrying heavy loads.

Hi Matt

Well I guess I can run the rear the same as front,as I'm not carrying any weight in the boot,I run both front/rear at 33psi.

Hi

If you look on the fuel flap. All the tyre pressures requirements situations are all printed there for your perusal.

As for the the clunk. Do what Matt does and take a little time to change from reverse to drive and vice versa.

Regards

Andy @ www.mercedesservicing.com

PS, For those of you wondering. All MB cars have the tyre pressure printed on the fuel flap.

I used to get a clunk when changing into reverse on my jag. It stopped if I had my foot firmly on the brake pedal, stopping any slack in the drive train, try it!
