Hi, I need some help on the price of second hand Mercedes Benz parts.

I am 18 years old and nearly have 2 years NCB and I think its time for me to upgrade to something a little better than my Peugeot I am currently driving .

I am looking to purchase a black C180 Classic (bottom spec due to insurance :() between 2000-2002. It would ideally be a 2litre manual.

I personally think the 2004- C Class looks very impressive so I would like to upgrade the front and rear lights to the higher spec ones (clear) and also fit the 18" AMG wheels. I also like the grill with the Mercedes Benz badge in the middle and the illuminating door sills.

Being a Mercedes Benz could someone please tell me how much this would cost if I were to by the parts second hand?

Your help would be much appreciated. Great site by the way :)

This is my current Peugeot 306 GTI6

Hi there and welcome.

Please Please Please do NOT buy a manual..!! You will find 4 pedals (footbrake, clutch, brake and accelerator) and you (normally) only have 2 feet :( to juggle them all about with - especially hill starts..!! Oh and a hand-release for the footbrake too. Not easy to master.

Others will be along soon to advise you about parts.

Enjoy your MB.

There are plenty of places to get 2nd hand parts, www.mercman.net , www.thegarageuk.com and many others. Eurocarparts and German Swedish French will also become your friends as well.

As long as you can wield a spanner then the dealers aren't too bad for parts, unless it's electricals for which they always charge too much, just don't get them to fit anything, not unless you can afford £95+ per hour.

Hi,

Manual mercs are excellent. I was searching long time and payed extra to get a manual. There are much more automatics around.

It is very easy tyo get used to the foot operated parking brake. I personaly believe it si better and easier to operate than those conventional between seats.

My previous car was a peugeot 405. Some parts, like filters are actually less expensive for mercedes. I always buy genuine parts from dealers. Most other parts are similar in price or merc is slightly more expensive. The labour cost at the merc dealer workshop is very expensive (GBP110/hour)

I hope thsi helps
Pose.

Hi,

I was searching long time and payed extra to get a manual.

That's the first time I've ever heard of anyone doing that?
Some cars are much more suited to automatics, Mercs are one of them.

Hello,

Thats a nice pug, friend had one in standard trim and I didn't think much of it until we went for a spin it looks like a normal 1.6 but goes like stink !!, turning circle is crazy though apparently the 6 speed box gets in the way.

Anyway hello,

With the Merc it will be more of a cruiser and looker (assuming you do some nice mods) than the pug. It will not handle as well either the small pugs have that sorted. I still miss my old 205Gti.

You should be able to find a nice one as there are a lot about, I dread to think what the insurance is on the GTi6 so would think the merc would be less? What group in a merc? the 230K maybe in reach?

As for manual.....mmmmm sorry but Auto is the way to go imho much smoother, suits the car better and as mentioned the foot brake / flip off handbrake although yes you would get use to, why have to? Merc make probably the best auto box's

as for quote "I was searching long time and payed extra to get a manual"

I've Never heared that about a merc, extra???? are you sure.

Good luck in your search.

I'd use Camberley Auto Factors before Eurocar parts everytime personally but then I can get genuine new Mercedes parts at a good discount myself;)

I had a 2001 C180 Classic - manual - as a company car. It performed perfectly and the gearbox (6 speed) was good. The engine was a 2 litre (no supercharger) but plenty of grunt (for an old'un- driver that is). Fuel consumption was excellent on premium fuel. Parts I think will be reasonable now, anyway aftermarket replacements will be commonplace, as said above.
The foot/hand parking brake was 'el crappo' but my present CLK parking brake is also 'el crappo'.

Sorry - but someone saw you coming. Manuals are worth less than autos. Period.
Had you played it differently "I really wanted an auto, but could be persuaded take a manual .... if the price is right" you'd have got yourself a bargain. They will have had real trouble shifting your car. Manuals are rare because most mercs are specced by their drivers rather than penny pinching fleet buyers and the auto option is almost taken as read.
Aisde from anything else, your car was £1400 cheaper to buy so why would it cost more second hand.
