Not MB but interesting for comparison as we so often believe we are being shafted by MB, btw I don't disagree.

The poor other half was attacked by a road barrier yesterday in her Honda Civic (2012 version).
One of those that is raised from one side like we see the Germans doing in WWill films. Anyway it must have jumped forward as she reversed, as with a reverse cam and parking sensors how could it be not using mirrors to see something above these totally over confidence inspiring gadgets.

So inner rear o/s light goosed, as is the LED brake light. A fair bit of the smaller rear screen is inside the mo mo. I am surprised she failed to collect the rest so that I may glue it back together.

B'ham breakers with collection only, rear light £49. So I messaged for other bits. Whole 'bare' tailgate for the screen £190, LED brake light £120.

LED bit pricey methinks, don't need a whole tailgate so asked Honda.
Screen £233, LED £354, Light £181. Fitting bits for the screen around another £60. Including VAT the whole lot would be £995. Gosh old bean that seems a tad like the barrier up me rectum.

With the insurance excess at £350 methinks breaker bits and my have a go attitude wins.

Crazy indeed, these are the reasons so many cars get written off. Insurers use new genuine parts and at those prices a car is taken off the road to the insurance owned scrappers who dismantle and sell the remaining parts.

OP you are doing the right thing, any insurance claim will see your premium rise for next x years. If you are handy these things are easy enough to to, or get the parts and go to your local garage to have the offending items replaced

I've not ordered any parts yet.
It got a bit more complicated.

Yesterday with it raining bucket style I taped some protection over the new rear AC inlet.
It can't be seen until you open the hatch but that has removed the lacquer in at least 2 areas. This I noticed while replacing the protection applied yesterday with new, but better applied and for a neater appearance. Pretty sure more lacquer will come off with that.

The mo mo did look showroom but I assume has had some paint work done pre sale (early summer to us).
Assuming the insurance don't attempt to disclaim as the paint isn't original and undeclared I now think the job is theirs.
