Hi guys,

Anyone know how to remove rear privacy glass? My wife's CLC has privacy glass at the back and it makes the interior dark and the outside look like a van. Is it tinted glass or a heat-treated coating that can be removed with a hot air gun? The rear window (hatch-back) is also tinted heavily and makes the limited rear visibility of the CLC even worse, especially at night.

If it’s factory option then it’s bonded to the glass so no way or removing, if it’s aftermarket then you have a chance with a hot air gun, but it can take some time, just make sure you don’t pull the tracks off the window for the heating element.
Might be easier to source a replacement set from a breakers and then sell yours

I find that the interior of my car with factory privacy glass is no darker than a car without .... rear visibility is fine. I have been in cars that have had a film fitted & they have felt dark & gloomy inside.

Do you know if its tinted or factory. I love privacy glass hate tinted. In fact I bought a second hand privacy rear windscreen from a breakers. So if you really wanted to, you could buy a glass without the privacy and it only costs around £60 to fit

If fact fit you need to change the windows. This is usially from B pillar back of factory.

How long have you had the car.

We've only had the car a few weeks. It is a fully loaded model with every option on the list so we didn't want to reject it on grounds of the glass. The rear visibility in these isn't great at the best of times, let alone with black rear windows. It's not the end of the world, just an irritation with an otherwise ace motor. I just thought that if it was an easy 'heatgun' fix then great, otherwise, live with it.

Live with it , it's a high spec cost option .

No way was I going to have a Merc without privacy glass or real leather...

Worst comes to the worst find someone who will swap glass with you and find a good fitter .
